According to a statement released this morning the Sheriff’s department received word from California Department of Corrections that officers found Herzog dead at his residence on the grounds of High Desert State Prison. Deputies responded to the trailer and Herzog was pronounced dead at 12:30a.m.
The Sheriff’s Department and Department of Corrections will be conducting a joint investigation.
While evidence at the scene points to a hanging death and suicide an official determination of the cause of death won’t be made until after the investigation and autopsy are completed.
