This Saturday, June 6th, Susanville’s summer season truly begins with the opening of Lassen Land and Trails Trust’s weekly Farmers’ Market! Support our local agriculture by buying your food directly from the producer at the only Certified Lassen County Farmers’ Market, every Saturday between now and October.
The Lassen County Farmers’ Market offers the best and most nutritious fresh and local produce, eggs, meats, cottage produced goods and crafts sold in an open air market at the Historic Susanville Railroad Depot, 601 Richmond Road, from 8:00a.m. until noon. As always the market is E.B.T. and W.I.C. friendly.
Market producers already confirmed for the season include Yoon Chao’s Farm; Debbie Anderson Pottery; Hall Street Gardens; Hulsman Ranch; Julia’s Fruit Stand; Primo Deli; Tamales Colima and Ellie Orbeton Sprouts.
The nice folks from Banner Lassen Medical Center will be at the market with information on heat stroke prevention; the Chamber of Commerce be promoting their Buy Local campaign and will have a table set up with information and the Lassen County Master Gardener Program will be on-hand to answer plant related questions.
As a special opening day treat the Susanville String Trio will be performing from 9:00 to 11:00.
National Trails Day
Along with being the first day of Farmers’ Market Saturday is also National Trails Day and the LLTT volunteers, along with a National Civilian Community Corps Americorps team, will be stabilizing the newly acquired Bizz Extension and preparing the historic railroad Depot to serve trail users this season.
Work is scheduled from 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. at the depot and volunteers will work alongside the Americorps team on projects ranging from weeding to landscaping and trash pick-up to help beautify the trailhead and visitor center for the Bizz Johnson trail. Organizers ask that volunteers bring work gloves and loppers, rakes or whatever tools you may have.
Volunteers will join the Americorps team for a barbecue at 1:00p.m. as a thank you for all your hard work!
