Susanville Police Arrest 17 Year-Old After String of Thefts and Vandalism

A 17 year-old was arrested by Susanville Police early Monday morning after his suspicious actions led investigators on a trail of thefts and vandalism.

According to Lieutenant Matt Wood, officers from the Susanville Police Department were on patrol shortly after midnight Monday when they observed a subject standing next to a vehicle on Third Street near Cedar Street with its courtesy lights on.

Officers contacted the subject, who was observed carrying and then dropping a compound hunting bow as he was walking away from the vehicle, and identified him as a 17 year-old male juvenile.

“At approximately the same time an officer from the Susanville Police Department located a vehicle in the 1500 block of North Street,” explains Lieutenant  Wood, “With one of its doors partially open and the running board lights on.”

Subsequent investigation revealed that the compound bow dropped by the juvenile, along with several other items found on him at the scene, were stolen out of the vehicle that was parked on North Street.

During the investigation police discovered that another vehicle on Third Street had been entered. No items were taken from that vehicle.

Another vehicle that had been vandalized was located on North Street. The investigation revealed that the juvenile was also responsible for the vandalism to the vehicle.

The 17 year-old was subsequently arrested and booked into the Lassen County Juvenile Detention Facility. The case has been referred to the Juvenile Division of the Lassen County Probation Department.
