Teacher Lip Sync rocks!

by Shelley Bennett

That’s a wrap on Winterfest 2024! We had some fun dress up days, like Music Festival (dress like you’re going to Stagecoach/Coachella/any music Festival), Throwback Thursday (dress like your childhood self), and Dress like your Favorite Rapper (Rev Run for me).

The week ended on a Friday with a high energy assembly starting with the Rock, Paper, Scissors championship.

The day before each student received a bead necklace. Throughout the day, you could see students competing during passing period and at lunch, collecting another necklace (or more) with each win.

There were about 10 finalists on the gym floor as the semi final rounds began. The classes cheered for the competitors and began chanting the names of the final two standing: Meadow Harris and Leyla Bustamante.

After a best two out of three, Leyla was victorious.

Winterfest Royalty was introduced and presented with crowns, flowers, sashes, and scepters. Staying with the music theme, the senior representatives were given a record album, two of which contained a “gold” record to designate the King and Queen.

Justin Ellena and Hannah Perez found the gold records and were named King and Queen of Winterfest.

The assembly concluded with an epic Lip Sync Battle between the classes. The Freshmen had a good showing with a performance to a mash up of Destiny’s Child, Janet Jackson, and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. They received third place. Our Sophomore class opened with a Mariah Carey song, then moved into NSYNC and ended with Vanilla Ice. Both classes demonstrated fun dance moves with their song choices.

Then it was time for the upper classmen who raised the bar on the competition. The Juniors set the stage with props of tables, chairs, a couch, and boom box and chose Snoop Dog, Christina Aguilera, and The Backstreet Boys. They brought energy to the stage and threw down a challenge to the senior class.

The Seniors started off with Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time” set in a typical high school classroom with desks and boys throwing paper airplanes. Renee Delgado, as Britney, slayed with her backup dancers Sofia Bennett, Camber Olexiewicz, and Aubrey Yerington.

Green Day took the floor with Connor Langslet on lead guitar, Danny Davidson on bass, and Tucker Schall at the drums. As students in the audience began to sing along to “Brain Stew” the trio jammed out like the original band.

“Intergalactic” from the Beastie Boys was next with Justin Ellena and Nash Osborn giving an almost perfect replication as the guys from New York. They were joined by Callie Baldwin as a dancing robot to give the performance an even more realistic touch.

The Seniors pulled off a win at their last Winterfest and the Juniors placed second. All four classes were very entertaining and the crowd loved them.

The only thing that could top them was a group of teachers who bravely took the floor with a mix of 90’s songs ending with a poignant message from the theme of Friends with “I’ll Be There for You”. The student body went absolutely crazy with cheers and applause for Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Reger, Mrs. Lepage, and me.

Of course, none of this could happen without the behind the scenes work of the ASB class. I was very proud of them for organizing, creating, and planning the entire event in two weeks. They really are the heart of LHS.

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
