This Friday marks the end of a long journey home for a Susanville girl who grew up in this town making music, and who has spent the better part of three decades writing, recording and performing throughout northern California. The long road home brings Katie Alosi and The Lucky Seven Band to the Lassen County Fairgrounds on August 30th for the big finale to the Arts Council’s Summer Concert Series.
Alosi is one of the lead singers and a driving force behind The Lucky Seven Band, a Sacramento group blending the pop, rock and country styles of the last thirty years into a powerful stage presentation that has garnered rave reviews up and down the Central Valley.
Alosi, a proud native of Susanville, can’t wait to play in her home town.
“I’m so excited to bring the band up there. Most of them have never been, so I am really hoping we have a great turn out. I want them to see the awesome town and supportive people that I talk about all the time… and I do mean all the time.”
Performers at Friday’s concert include Michael Luis Jr. on lead vocals and guitar; Alosi singing lead and background vocals; Chuck More playing lead guitar and background vocals; Jon Kay on rhythm guitar; Tina Rhodes playing bass guitar; Kristopher Ayala handles drums and lead vocals; Darrell Dawes plays keyboards and special guest drummer Darrell Pereira.
Alosi grew up in Susanville, in a house filled with music, and in every room a different era could be heard; her father’s big band sounds, mom’s country, 50’s sock hops and 60’s folk songs, her brother’s classic rock and her radio playing modern pop.
Alosi says it was as if they ‘needed music just to function.’ Of course with both parents being musicians it was no surprise that she became a musician as well.
Alosi started performing in public, in church, at around three or four years old. She participated in church and community events as a soloist, within choral groups, worship teams, competitions and in musical theater. “There is an immense amount of musical talent in Lassen County. I am so thankful that they shared their knowledge with me.”
After leaving Susanville for Sacramento she performed as front woman for the drum and bass/ trance band, Dance The Moon.
The bassist from that band, Jim Sandelius, was instrumental in inspiring Katie to release an album of her originals. As a team they assembled some amazing recording artists to create the adult contemporary album, I Wonder If I’ll Die Here.
After Jim’s untimely passing, Katie wanted to try something completely different and she became the front woman for the 90’s rock cover band, Idle Aegis.
In 2011 her brother was asked to re-assemble one of his older music projects to play at a high school reunion. With few of the original members available, a new hard rock group, Blackbane, was assembled with Katie included. The group decided to progress and soon diverged into two bands, The Lucky Seven being one of them.
“I love these people and this music,” says Alosi of the new lineup and their modern dance, pop, rock style, “This is definitely where I belong.”
When The Lucky Seven Band performs at the fairgrounds this Friday they will draw from the group’s deep musical heritage and feature songs from across a wide spectrum of artists and genres; from White Stripes to Kid Rock, All-American Rejects to the Black Crowes and No Doubt.
Gates open at 5:30 Friday evening and the Arts Council will welcome The Lucky Seven Band to the Lassen Transfer and Storage stage at 6:30. As part of the Arts Council’s Summer Concert Series admission will be only five dollars and kids twelve and under get in free.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase with proceeds going to the Arts Council.
Special guests for the evening include Miss Lassen County Ginger Miller and the Ambassadress of Susanville Ivanna Rose.
