William Marion Ashmore went home to be with the Lord on 10/23/21. Bill was born in 1923, and was raised in 1923 and was raised in Coolidge, Arizona. At twenty Bill enlisted in the Army and spent over two years serving during WW 2. Two weeks before he was to get out of the service he married the love of his life, Maxine Hernstedt. They were married for almost seventy years before Maxine passed.

Bill and Maxine moved to Susanville in 1955 and Bill started work at Sierra Army Depot and retired in 1983. They bought a ranch in Janesville and raised four children. Bill loved ranching and honed his skills growing cattle and alfalfa. In 1972 Bill and Maxine moved to Susanville but kept part of the ranch in Janesville. In Susanville Bill and Maxine bought and remodeled 6-7 houses. This was Maxine’s love and Bill was glad to do as much work on these houses as he could. One of these houses became the Roseberry House Bed and Breakfast where they served and enjoyed guests for many years.

Bill loved gardening and showing his harvest at the fair. In the mid-eighties, Bill took up golf and he played till he was ninety. Bill loved studying his Bible and learning about eschatology. He attended Shasta Bible College and was given an honorary Bible degree. He pastored a short time at Janesville fellowship and filled the pulpit wherever he could. In 1995 Bill started as the first chaplain at High Desert State prison where he served faithfully for over ten years. Bill loved getting wood and making sure the widows of the church had all the wood they needed.

Bill and Maxine had the gift of hospitality and often had dinner parties for friends and family. Bill will be remembered for his hard work and his service to others. He would help all that asked and was generous with what God had given him. He loved his family and there were lots of them to love!

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, all his brothers and sister, his loving wife Maxine, and a daughter, Rebecca Ballard and son-in-law Alan Ballard. He is survived by a daughter, Caryn Nobles and her husband Bob, Jeannie Brown and her husband Brian and a son John Ashmore and his wife Pinky.
