All week long on SusanvilleStuff, in celebration of National 4-H Week, we will be featuring this year’s four inductees into the Lassen County 4-H Hall of Fame.

Without the support of community-based organizations and volunteers the 4-H program here in Lassen County would not be able to flourish the way it does. So many adult volunteers spend countless hours devoting time investing into our youth in positives ways.
One such organization that we feel has gone above and beyond in their service to Lassen County 4-H is the CHP 140 Squad Club. The CHP 140 Squad Club is a 501c3 comprised of local CHP Susanville employees and their families (not to mention it has been around for over 30 years). You may have seen them at our fair where they provide their famous tri-tip sandwiches and 140 Burgers during the week.
What you may not know is that this group is also responsible for contributing to Sober Graduation and helps sponsor multiple youth-based groups and activities throughout the year. In the last decade the 140 Squad Club has donated over $50,000 to sober graduation alone that they raise by putting on their annual golf tournament. If you enjoy golfing – don’t miss it! It’s held annually in June.
During fair week these employees donate their own time to have piping hot coffee, breakfast burritos and donuts available for our local 4-H and FFA youth and their families when nothing else is open yet. They stay until almost midnight each night of the fair to serve our community a great meal.
You might ask yourself – what’s so special about selling tri-tip sandwiches at the fair? They take their profit from the weeks sales of food at the Lassen County Fair and on Sunday they purchase 4-H and FFA members livestock with it at the Lassen County Junior Livestock Auction. In the 140 Squad’s existence it’s estimated that they have purchased over 50 animals. They are a true gem that our program is lucky to know!
It’s an honor, CHP 140 Squad Club, to induct you as our third member into the Lassen County 4-H Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
