The Susanville Indian Rancheria will be holding its 5th Annual Memorial POW WOW beginning Friday evening with the Grand Entry at 7:00p.m. and running through Sunday afternoon with ceremonial dancing, food, arts and crafts and Host Drum Wildrose from White Swan, Washington.
Wildrose Singers will act as Head Drum for the dance competitions and Head Dancers are Bryon Adams and Ida Adams from Toppenish, Washington.
The annual event, which last year grew large enough to be moved to the Lassen County Fairgrounds for additional room, is held in honor of elders and veterans ‘for all of the sacrifices they made so that we may live.’
MC of the three-day celebration will be Fred Hill Sr. from Pendleton, Oregon.
Dance Specials will include the Men’s Traditional Special sponsored by the Head Man and the Woman’s Traditional Special sponsored by the Head Woman.
As these gatherings and ceremonies are deeply spiritual there are rules for when photography is or is not acceptable, protocols for the Grand Entry and participants need to be treated with the utmost respect. The Master of Ceremonies will guide visitors and let them know when it is appropriate to take photos and video.
Drums have special rules and should not be touched or played by those not a part of the drum group. People and their regalia should not be touched without permission.

Saturday May 17th, 12:00p.m. and 7:00p.m.
