Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Lassen Veterinary Services

By Terra Avilla

I passed a milestone in my adult life, that I never really wanted to. Yesterday, I had to put down my sweet, old thirteen-year-old doggie. Growing up my parents took care of that, and I think prior to moving to Susanville, I maybe had been inside a veterinary clinic a handful of times.

Then I adopted Tucker who stayed in relatively great health his long life. Then on a pregnant whim during my first pregnancy, I adopted Chunk. The dog Frankie and I call our ‘Million Dollar’ dog. He earned this moniker because since he was born, he has unfortunately had many medical interventions, from parvo, to hip dysplasia, red ant bites, an infection caused by a bee sting, etc.

Because of this we frequent the Lassen Veterinary Services on Theatre Rd. As it is never fun having a sick or injured pet, I can tell you that their staff and veterinarians are amazing.

In all of the times that we have called to get our dog seen, we have never had a problem being seen right away, when it was important. Dr. Nelson as well as his amazing staff is always accommodating to us.

My husband is the king of questions, and their staff is so patient with him. It’s apparent that working with animals is a calling. Watching Dr. Nelson as well as his staff work with our fur babies always gave me a sense of relief.

They provide top notch medical care to their patients and take time to explain all of the treatment options for the anxious owners.

With Tucker, being so old and sick, this last month has been really hard for us. We had constant visits to their office to make sure his quality of life was good. And when it wasn’t, there was no other place I would have rather taken Tucker than to them.

Veterinary Technician Courtney Jones was so comforting to us, and we walked in with our old dog, both Frankie and I in tears. She was so sweet to us, giving us as much time as we needed to say goodbye and explained everything to us.

It was a sad day, but through their office, it was a whole lot better because of them.

As a police officer, we also encounter an array of pets and animals, and Dr. Nelson and his staff help us when then can.

The service I received from Lassen Veterinary Services far surpasses any care of service I ever received for my pets in Reno.

To live in such a wonderful community with such wonderful professionals is truly a blessing. The Avillas will always be indebted to this clinic for taking such good care of our furriest family members, and they will always be one of the reasons I love the place we live.
