National Child Abuse Prevention Month began Friday, and Lassen Family Services commemorated the start of April, which has been dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse since 1983, with a big event at their offices on Riverside Drive Saturday morning.
It was a beautiful day and lots of folks showed up to hang out at the LFS event. Adults mingled and visited, stopping at the resource booths, while the kids spent time climbing around racecars and firetrucks.
Costumed characters, like Batman, Star Lord, Smokey Bear and Dandy the Dragon, roamed about, alongside real heroes from a wide variety of local agencies including the Susanville Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Posse, and the Forest Service.
Susanville Mayor Mendy Schuster was on hand to deliver a proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month.
