Susanville Rotary Clubs Holding Annual Speech Contest March 1st

Susanville’s two Rotary Clubs are inviting all local 9th to 12th grade students to participate in their annual Speech Contest, with the local competition scheduled for March 1st, at 5:30p.m., in the High School’s Board Room followed by the Area 1 Regional contest on March 29th and April’s District 5190 competition in Lake Tahoe.

“How have you imagined Working Together to better the lives of others, and how did you implement your idea?” is the theme of this year’s competition, which is open to all students in grades 9 through 12, attending school and residing within the District 5190 boundaries.

The top two winners of the local club contest will advance to the Area 1 contest on March 29th, which will include the winner of the Club contest held by the Rotary Club of Chester.

The winner of the Area 1 contest will advance to the District 5190 contest that will be held on at Harrah’s Hotel, in Lake Tahoe.

There are some big cash prizes available for the speech contest winners – winners of the
Club contest will receive for 1st Place, $150; 2nd Place, $100; and 3rd Place, $75. The 3rd Place finisher will serve as the alternate for the Area 1 contest, if the 1st or 2nd place finisher is unable to participate.

The winners of the Area 1 contest will receive for 1st Place, $150; 2nd Place, $100; and 3rd Place, $75. The 2nd place finisher will serve as the alternate to the District 5190 contest, if the 1st place finisher is unable to participate.

The winners of the District 5190 contest will receive for 1st Place, $1,000; 2nd Place, $750; and 3rd Place, $500. All 4th Place finishers will receive a $50 cash prize for their participation. Students must be available for all three levels to enter the competition.

“This is a serious competition that provides you an opportunity to build and test your skills, earn some serious cash and WOW your friends, teachers, family and the community,” explains Rotarian Jim Chapman. Click here to download rules and information.
