Ronald Ray Farwell

Ronald Ray Farwell was born at Potter Maternity Home in Susanville, CA to Mae and Granville Farwell on June 2, 1938. Ron grew up in the Litchfield-Standish area. He attended Solder Bridge and Honey Lake Grammar Schools. Attended Lassen High School where he was active in FFA and graduated in 1956. He raised and showed beef and sheep in 4-H and FFA at the Lassen County Fair. He also attended the National FFA Convention.

After high school he attended Chico State University for 1 year. Ronnie worked for the Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service. He retired from the Forest Service after 25 years of service. He later moved to Red Bluff, then to Cottonwood where he worked for an auction yard for several years. Then he moved to Idaho and resided for about 15 years. He also worked at an auction yard while in Idaho. As well as helping cattle ranches, driving trucks, and hauling potatoes and grain off the fields. He moved back to California where he resided with his sister and sons.

His love of horses started with his first horse ‘Sweetheart’, and he owned and rode horses for the rest of his life. Ronnie was happiest when he was out at Grasshopper working with cattle for Mapes, McClelland, and Dow ranches. He was also an avid hunter of deer and game birds. His favorite was always hunting pheasants with his dogs.

Ron was preceded in death by his parent Mae and Granville Farwell, brother Bev Lane (Jeanine), Delbert Farwell (Dorthey), sister Sharon Smith (Neil), his grandson Zach Farwell, as well as 2 nieces. He is survived by his sons Steve and Kevin Farwell of Elk Grove, CA, Sister Dolores Hemphill (Bob) of Janesville, CA, 5 grandchildren Danielle, Nicole, Katie, Sam and Zach. 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. And of course, his beloved dog Daisey.

Graveside services will be at Janesville cemetery on April 29th at 1:00 pm. Celebration of life will follow at the Elks Lodge in Susanville.
