The wet windy storm systems headed towards Lassen County have prompted Office of Emergency Services Chief David Junette to issue a warning that area residents can expect possible wide-spread power outages and flooding over the next several days.
The National Weather Service, Reno office, has issued a warning for possible small stream and urban flooding. The highest likelihood of flooding will occur Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.
The Susan River is predicted to rise within a foot of the 12 foot flood stage by Sunday morning.
The heavy rains, along with the high winds, will increase the likelihood of trees blowing down on to power line causing wide-spread power outages.
Junette says that residents should be prepared to move out of low-lying areas and be prepared for power outages.
OES recommends that residents should have the following items available in the event of an emergency:
- Three days of food and water for each family member
- Medications for at least seven days
- First aid kit
- Flashlights with extra batteries
- Battery operated radio
- Have at least 3/4 of a tank of fuel in your vehicle
