The Explorers received training in weapons handling, traffic stops, building searches, active shooter, crisis intervention techniques and handcuffing procedures.

Explorer Post Advisors: Sergeant John McGarva, Correctional Supervisor Tami Langrehr, and Probation Officer Jennifer Mohr attended the event and served as advisors for the training academy.

Sheriff’s Explorer Melissa Vanderley received an award for being the Most Improved Female Explorer.

The event was sponsored by Learning for Life program under the Boy Scouts of America. The Explorer Program allows teenagers from 14 ½ to 20 to learn about all aspects of a chosen field.

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Explorers spend time learning the duties of patrol deputies, correctional officers at the Lassen County Jail, dispatch and various other duties. The Sheriff’s Explorer program provides an opportunity for our youth to serve in an apprenticeship role and learn about our Sheriff’s Office.
