Homecoming Week Full of “Gold Rush” Themed Spirit at Lassen High

It’s a big week at Lassen High as students celebrate homecoming with a week full of exciting and fun activities all centered around this year’s theme – Gold Rush at Lassen High.

Today students will ‘Go for the Gold’ – dressed like Olympians in athletic gear, red, white and blue sweats and sneakers. The chalk art gallery will debut today, and today’s lunch activity is Potato Olympics. There will be a home volleyball game against Yreka today at 4:30.

Wednesday will feature ‘Comedy Gold.’ a three-legged race and obstacle course and the annual Powder Puff game kicks off at Arnold Field at 7:00.

Thursday’s HoCo fun is ‘Pirates vs. Prospectors’ where students are encouraged to either (you guessed it) dress like a pirate or a prospector. There will be a treasure hunt at lunchtime.

Friday is the big day for homecoming spirit as the ‘Grizzlies go Gold’ with a big homecoming parade, co-sponsored by the City of Susanville, on Main Street at 2:12. There will also be the crowning of the court, class floats and homecoming football at 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30.

Main Street will be closed Weatherlow to Alexander Ave beginning at 1:30p.m. The parade route starts at the entrance of the back parking lot, travels eastbound on Main Street and then turns in at Foss Street.

The community is invited to sit opposite the high school during the parade and enjoy the festivities, which will include performances from the drill team, cheerleaders, and drumline.

Each of LHS’s classes have decorated floats based on movies – the Freshmen are recreating Indiana Jones, the Sophomores interpreting Goonies, the Junior class enters a whole new world with Aladdin and the Seniors will base their masterpiece on the Pirates of the Caribbean.

There will also be a homecoming dance Saturday night.

The City of Susanville is asking everyone to use Susanville Click & Fix app’s “We are Lassen” request category to share community pride and support for the students at LHS.

“We are encouraging businesses and residents to get into the spirit and show their Lassen Pride with outside decorations, like streamers, purple and gold flowers, supportive signs or anything that makes our community great!” explains Assistant to the City Administrator Jolene Arredondo who continues, “Add a little purple and gold to your Friday outfit and share your spirit on Susanville Click & Fix!”

You can download the App from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store to stay connected by receiving information on city events, road closures, utility service disruptions, press releases and direct access from your mobile device to services such as online bill pay, city council agendas, job opportunities and much more.
