Susanville City Administrator Dan Newton announced yesterday that a new electric ATV, for monitoring along the Susan River Trail, has been purchased with the help of Lassen Municipal Utility District’s Public Benefits program.
“Two of the City Council’s identified priorities include improvements to the Susan River Trail and addressing homelessness in the city,” explains Newton.
“In September 2022 the City Council passed Resolution 22-6048 which created a budget to address citywide monitoring of homeless encampments and to conduct encampment closures.”
In the last year, according to Newton, city staff has increased resources towards conducting cleanups utilizing these funds for staff time, equipment, supplies and the creation and implementation of the Volunteer Susan River Patrol Program.
“In support of these efforts, staff met with LMUD to discuss eligible projects through their Public Benefits Community Projects program and concluded that the purchase of an electric all-terrain utility vehicle for primary use for the Volunteer Susan River Patrol Program would be an eligible use of funds.”
The LMUD Public Benefits Community Projects program provides funding to the community for projects that fall into categories such as energy efficiency improvements, low-income assistance, research and development into emerging technologies, and renewable energy projects.
This program has funded energy efficient lighting at the Senior Center, provided LED lighting for the community Christmas Tree and has provided funding for the LED Scoreboard at Lassen High School’s football field.
LMUD awarded the city funding through the Public Benefits Community Projects to purchase the electric all-terrain utility vehicle.
