Car Drops Over Susan River Canyon; Man Only Slightly Hurt
November 17, 1930

A car, being driven by Devortrio Martinez, 1322 Pardee Avenue, careened of the hill drive of Riverside Drive Sunday afternoon and dove into Susan river canyon.

Martinez, an employee of the Lassen Lumber and Box Company, was taking a drive and as the car turned into Riverside Drive from a side street, a rear door opened.

One of the children in the front seat with Martinez accidentally stepped on the accelerator when the driver attempted to close the door and the car careened over the canyon’s brink, after knocking down a portion of a guard fence.

Martinez was only slightly injured as a result of the hair raising hundred foot drop.
