“We are excited to bring a Bloody Mary bar and Mimosa bar to the T&A for the first time ever,” explains event organizer Christy Rose. “We will have a large assortment of items that you can add to your Bloody Mary. It will be set up so the customers can use a skewer stick to add as many items as they can fit. For the Mimosa bar we plan to have a variety of juices and fresh fruits to add to their Mimosas. We also have some fun treats that can be added to their Mimosas. It will be a special day to honor all mothers and to remember our matriarch, Carmela Surian, who kept the T&A alive for 67 years.”

The Surian family has proudly owned and operated the T&A Cocktail Lounge and Restaurant since 1946 and Christy recounts the history of the business.

“Seventy-eight years ago, Frank Tonin ‘Toni’ and Al Surian had a vision to build a bar business. Shortly after that Toni passed away. Al and his wife, Carmela, bought the business from Toni’s widow and continued to run the business. Their son, Gino, has been involved in the business since he was a young boy and now he is going to retire.”

You are invited to come celebrate the longest owned and operated family business in Susanville and send Gino into retirement in style.

We asked Gino Surian was asked about his lifelong commitment to the family business this is what he said.

“I was only 11 years old when my dad passed away and my mom did not speak English, because I was the oldest child, I had to help my mom with things pertaining to the business. While I was going to college I would come home on the weekends and work. After I graduated from UNR I returned to Susanville to help her with the business. My mom continued to be a part of the daily operations of the business until she passed away nine years ago.”

“In the past 65 years that I have been involved in the business, I have met a lot of interesting people, from all walks of life. I have met musicians, professional athletes, celebrities, famous people, people from every state and from a lot of different countries. The people I have met have been the best part of my job. I have made a lot of lifetime friends and have a lot of acquaintances from the bar. Many out-of-towners come back year after year to stop in and catch up as they travel through Susanville.”

Gino is looking forward to retirement and he says, “I haven’t had a lot of time to think about what I will do but I look forward to having more time with family, especially my great-grandchildren and my wife. We will do some traveling and I am sure I will pick up a few hobbies to keep me busy.”

He closed with, “I cannot thank the community enough for supporting my family for seventy-eight years. We would not have been in business this long without the support of the community.”
