Lassen Family Services will be hosting a friendly competition to stock its food pantry. The “Battle of the Badges” food drive will pit the California Highway Patrol against the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department in a rivalry to see which team can garner the most donations.
The event will take place on October 1st, from 3:00 until 6:00p.m., at Susanville Supermarket. The public is invited to come out and support their favorite law enforcement agency by donating non-perishable food items, canned goods, dry goods, toiletries, and other essential items. Susanville United Methodist HOPE Food Pantry operates out of the Social Hall (on Cottage Street) at Susanville United Methodist Church. The food pantry is open every Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. You do not need to bring any ID or proof of employment or residency with you. The wide variety of food items changes weekly and often includes produce and dairy. The volunteers will sign you in and give you a list of what food is available so you can select what you want. Lassen Family Services’ CASA Program will be holding a Superhero themed 5K fun run and one mile walk on Saturday, October 5th, to help support programs for abused and neglected children in Lassen County.
The event, which starts at the Senior Center on Sunkist Drive, will be family friendly with the walk and run, fire and police equipment, a costume contest and more.
Registration for the 5K is $20 and All Proceeds Benefit the CASA Program and don’t forget to wear your favorite superhero or villain costume. Kids under 10 can do the 5K for free. The mile walk is free for all participants.
