Supervisors Vote Yes On Pool Initiative: Discussion Moves to City Council

After an intense two hour discussion Tuesday the Lassen County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to include a line item in the proposed budget, and to instruct the CAO and County Counsel, to begin work on a Joint Powers Agreement with the City of Susanville with the intent to fund and construct a community pool.

The City Council, who will be discussing the pool JPA at their regular meeting this evening, needs to also approve the JPA to begin the process of working together towards a community pool.

“This action does not actually do the pool,” explains Supervisor Jim Chapman a co-author of the proposal that would allow city and county to work together, “The budget line item needs to survive the budget hearings scheduled for Sept 3rd-6th.”

Yesterday’s approval by the Board of Supervisors gets the ball rolling, but with a lot of work ahead.

“If it remains in the final budget, then the JPA document needs to be adopted. That same process has to be repeated on the city side as well. If both sides eventually follow through, then a pool could be built. It will require a lot of vigilance and patience by the people.”

Tonight’s City Council Discussion will take place at 7:00p.m. in chambers at 66 North Lassen Street.
