Weather Bulletin: Next Round of Storms Brings Snow and Dangerous Winds

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno are warning residents in our area to be prepared as another round of wet, wintry weather is set to move into the Honey Lake Valley later today, bringing snow and nearly hurricane strength winds along Highway 395 and wind prone areas.

For areas of eastern Lassen County, wind gusts as high as 70mph are forecast between 11:00 this morning to 11:00 tonight. Snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour are possible from 5:00 this evening until 1:00a.m. Monday.

The Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties – including the cities of Portola, Susanville, Westwood, Sierraville and Loyalton.

The Storm Warning will be in effect from 11:00a.m. today until 11:00p.m., Monday.

Heavy snow is expected above 5,000 feet with snow accumulations of up to 12
inches, and up to 18 inches above 6,000 feet.

Localized amounts of up to 2 feet may occur along the highest peaks of the Sierra crest. Ridge with winds gusting as high as 80mph.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.
