Weather Bulletin: Heavy Snow Down to the Valley Floor Until Tuesday Night

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued an URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties as heavy snow begins to fall on the valley floor, and is expected to continue until Tuesday evening.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for areas above 5,500 feet in altitude and in the mountains west of Highway 395.

Heavy snow is forecast above 5,500 feet and west of U.S. Highway 395. Snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches, with up to 20 inches possible at the highest elevations.

Ridge winds will gusting as high as 60mph. West-southwest winds gusting up to 50 mph in wind prone areas along U.S. Highway 395.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible until late Tuesday evening. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Blowing snow could cause reduced visibilities.
