James Edward Bronson Jr.
March 26, 1941 – April 14, 2025
Jim Bronson, 84, of Susanville, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Reno, NV on April 14, 2025. Born on March 26, 1941, in Susanville, he was a proud third-generation Lassen County native and spent nearly his entire life rooted in the community he loved.
Jim graduated from Lassen High School in 1959 and attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and played football for the Nevada Wolfpack. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves and the unit was activated to serve in Korea. After his service, Jim became known across the region for owning and operating the Honey Lake Feed Store. He especially loved his years delivering feed, getting to know every ranch and back road in Lassen County.
Jim was truly one of a kind. He was known for his booming presence, warm heart, and infectious sense of humor. His favorite nickname for everyone was “buddy,” and a cheerful “you betcha” was never far behind. He was a lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan, cheering for them through every season. His deep roots in Lassen County, big laugh, and bigger heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Merle Bronson; his daughter, Dede Heimbigner, and son-in-law, Peter Heimbigner; and his grandchildren, Hannah, Grace, and Jack Heimbigner, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind many cousins, including Kenny and Dusty Doyle; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Paterson.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lassen High Alumni Association or Camp Ronald McDonald at Eagle Lake—two causes close to Jim’s heart.
Jim’s songs, stories, and laughter will echo in the hearts of those who loved him for years to come. He will be deeply missed.
