Further details today in the Sunday evening high-speed chase which covered more than ten miles back and forth across Susanville streets, reaching speeds of 60 miles an hour and finally ending when the suspect lost control and struck a tree on Richmond Road.
The pursuit began around 8:00p.m. when a Susanville Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on East Riverside Drive. The driver of the vehicle, whom police had identified as having a felony warrant, failed to yield and led officers on a chase through the streets of Susanville.
According to Police Lieutenant Matt Wood the suspect lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree in the 400 block of Richmond Road near Wall Street, then attempted to flee the scene. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
“Subsequent investigation by officers located a shotgun, a revolver, ammunition and a dirk/dagger inside the driver’s vehicle,” said Lieutenant Wood, “A search of the driver’s person by officers located a hypodermic needle and a small amount of methamphetamine.”
The driver, 29 year-old Susanville resident Robert Brummett, was booked into the Lassen County Jail on multiple charges including evading a peace officer, vandalism, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a dirk or dagger, driving without a license, possession of a hypodermic needle, possession of methamphetamine, forging or altering vehicle registration and felony warrant for probation violation out of Lassen County.
Brummett was held on $55,000 bail and the case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The pursuit lasted approximately 20 minutes and the Susanville Police Department was assisted during the chase by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.
