William Edward Wright
William Edward Wright, passed away peacefully in Susanville, California after a short illness on January 6, 2015. Bill was 89 years of age.
Bill was born to William and Mary Wright in Alameda California on May 25, 1925. He had one sister, Eugenia Wright Timmerman (1915 – 2003). Bill joined the navy in 1943 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor until the end of WW2. He then came home and worked for the Naval Air Station until his retirement in 1980. Bill married Shirley Mae Johnson (1925 – 2010) of Oakland California on May 24, 1947.
Bill and Shirley discovered Eagle Lake and Susanville on a camping vacation while he was working at the Naval Air Station. They fell in love with the place and started making plans to
retire there. They bought property on Stone Road at Eagle Lake a few years later and started getting the property ready to build a house. They worked on the property every chance they had until Bill retired. They then lived in a trailer on the property until they completed building their house. Bill, Shirley, with the help of their daughter Joyce, built the house without any outside help.
They loved their house, their life at Eagle Lake, and the town of Susanville. After a life time of work, and being frugal, it was a dream come true for them.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Jan Nix of Novato, California, and Joyce Wright of Susanville, California; his two grandchildren, Jason Tindell of San Francisco, California, and
Melanie Philofsky of Longmont, Colorado, and his two great grandchildren, Amelia and Jacqueline Philofsky, also of Longmont, Colorado.
