FullSizeRenderOn August 11, 2015, Victor (Vic) Vicondoa passed peacefully in a Reno hospital with his family by his side.  Vic was born in Susanville, California June 29, 1934, to Fermin and Madeline Vicondoa.

Vic grew up on ranches in the Honey Lake Valley, the son of a Basque Sheepherder.  He learned hard work at an early age.

Vic started working on the Elledge Ranch at age thirteen.  He later went on to the Jenkins Ranch where he was the camp tender for the sheep herders.  At the age of eighteen, he left the ranch to join the US Army, where he was stationed in Alaska.  After returning back to Lassen County, he resumed his work at the Jenkins Ranch.  With the encouragement of local rancher Bill Jenkins, Vic became employed as the Lassen County trapper in 1961.  For thirty-five years he trapped for the ranchers of Lassen County, where he made many lifelong friends, until his retirement in 1996.

He was an avid outdoors man.  Many deer seasons were spent horseback on Skeddadle Mountain with his brother Joe and numerous friends.  Vic often spent his summer vacations in Likely, California hauling hay.  He and his children enjoyed camping at Last Chance Creek on their annual firewood cutting trips.  Vic also enjoyed chukkar hunting with his sons and grandson.  Vic was proud of his Basque heritage.  He was a simple man who always had the coffee pot on the wood stove.

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Alfred Amestoy, Martin Amestoy and Joe Vicondoa.  He is survived by his sister Francis Bilboa of Elko, Nevada; his three children daughter Barbara Oxford, sons Jess and Joe Vicondoa of Susanville, grandchildren Joey Glines (Tammi), Cody Glines (Jessica), Kelci and Calli Oxford and David and Jodi Vicondoa, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vic will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22nd, at the Janesville cemetery.  Following the services, a gathering will be held at the Janesville park.  Chorizo sandwiches will be provided.  Please bring your own chair and a beverage of your choice.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation on his behalf to your favorite charity.
