Susanville Area CHP to Deploy Motorcycle Safety Operation on US 395

chpMany traffic collisions in California end in death or injury as a result of individuals speeding or driving aggressively. Statistical data from the California Highway Patrol’s Susanville Area database showed that from January 2014 through December 2014, there were 11 injury traffic collisions involving motorcycles in the Susanville CHP Area boundary.

This summer the CHP will deploy additional officers on US-395 in an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle incidents or collisions resulting from unsafe speed, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, improper turning and other ‘primary collision factor’ violations by motorcyclists and other drivers. The operation will commence on June 3rd.

To assist the CHP in this traffic safety effort, the Susanville Area has received a federally-funded grant titled, “Have a Good Ride II.” The Susanville CHP Area will deploy future motorcycle safety enforcement operations through September 30th, 2016.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
