Tuesday, April 25
Lassen Lit Rocks holds free adult reading classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday’s classes are held at the Lassen Library and Thursday’s classes are held at Shaffer School. For more information please call the library at 530-257-7471

Don’t be a victim and learn how to protect yourself! Lassen Family Services and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department are partnering up to provide a free awareness, empowerment and educational self-defense workshop to the community. The event will be held from 6:00 to 7:30p.m., at Lassen Senior Services, 1700 Sunkist Drive. If you have any questions please call Heather Roney at 530-257-4599 Ext. 1227. Participants should wear comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing.

Lassen County Arts Council will be holding a Youth Drawing Class with instructor Corey O’Brien. The course will be each Tuesday from March 7th to May 16th and will be from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m., at the Gallery at 807 Cottage Street. The cost for the course is $75.00.

Lassen Family Services Parenting Group 3:00 – 4:00pm at Lassen Family Services, 1306 Riverside Dr. Parenting Group classes are designed to help reduce chaos and power struggles within families. Learn an approach to parenting that is both simple and effective. All classes are free but space is limited. Please contact Heather at 530-257-4599 for more information.

Knights of Columbus Wednesday Night Bingo. 5:30 – 7:30p.m., dinner, 6:30 pm early bird bingo, 7:00p.m., regular bingo games. Lassen County Arts Council will be holding a Community Service Art Class with instructor Michael Giampaoli. The course will be each Wednesday from March 1 to May 17th and will be from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m., at the Gallery at 807 Cottage Street. The cost for the semester is $75.00.

Lassen Family Services supports National Denim Day. Wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. In this rape prevention education campaign we ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual assault. Westwood Bingo is every Thursday night at 125 Birch St., in Westwood. $10 per ten pack of cards, $1 Quickie games and $1 Early Bird Game.

The Lassen Community College English Department will be presenting another Night of the Cinephile April 28th on the school’s campus. Focusing on films of cultural, historic and artistic significance the evening will feature a free showing of the 1947 classic Dark Passage. The movie will be shown in Middleton Hall beginning at 5:30p.m. April 28th. Popcorn, candy and soda will be provided by the college. The lecture series is also open to all curious LCC students, high school students, community members, and friendly looky-loos who are interested in learning.

Come one and all for a free evening of music by Dutch Treat and readings by the Thompson Peak Writers at Artisan’s Coffee Shop, and celebrate National Poetry Month sponsored by the Academy of American Poets, the ALA and Scholastic, as well as others. Food provided, as well as prizes for naming authors or famous quotes, as well as a bowl of tiny books–all for free at 5:30 pm at the Artisian Coffee Shop in Janesville.
