Lassen Municipal Utility District will begin phase 2 of the utility’s Automated Metering Infrastructure project today according to LMUD Public Relations Manager Theresa Phillips.
“As with phase 1, in order to implement this multi-year project,” explains Phillips, “LMUD has contracted with meter installation company, National Metering. All National Metering vehicles in the field will be clearly marked and their employees have been issued LMUD contractor ID badges.”
The meter upgrade will ensure that LMUD customers have up-to-date technology that will provide the utility with more accurate information than traditional meters.
According to Phillips, some of the meters that are being replaced utilize outdated technology that is no longer supported by the manufacturer, others are being replaced so that, eventually, LMUD will have the same meters throughout their service territory.
Customers that will receive new meters during Phase 2 are those served by LMUD’s Lambert Substation and Westwood Substation – areas include, Westwood, Pinetown, Standish, Litchfield, Wendel and Janesville. The meter installations are expected to be complete for this phase by June 30th.
LMUD expects to implement Phase 3 of the meter upgrade project during fiscal year 2018/19 with full implementation expected within the next few years.
