Sheriff’s Deputies, BLM Special Agents Arrest Susanville Man for August Hobo Camp Assault

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, along with BLM Special Agents have arrested a Susanville man in connection with an attempted assault with a deadly weapon that occurred on the Bizz Johnson Trail, in the area of Hobo Camp, on August 18th.

“During the initial investigation,” explains Sheriff Dean Growdon, “it was reported that after a hispanic adult male stole a cellular telephone from two juveniles in the Hobo Creek area, he produced a large knife and ran after the juveniles with the knife in an apparent attempt to assault one or both of them.”

Fleeing from the man, while yelling for help, the juveniles were able to summon the attention of a passerby who intervened and chased the man yielding the knife away.

After a search of the area by responding deputies, the suspect or the weapon was not located and were considered still at large.

Bureau of Land Management Special Agents and Rangers from the Redding Field Office responded to assist the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

“These agencies working in tandem conducting several days of follow up in this case using all available resources including the assistance of Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Composite Sketch Artist to identify and arrest the armed suspect at large,” said Sheriff Growdon.

On September 19th, Special Agents with BLM were able to identify the suspect as 28-year old Susanville resident Anthony Taylor. Taylor was placed under arrest for the charge of Attempted Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony.

According to Growdon the investigation is ongoing, including the execution of a search warrant and interviews of other parties with information concerning the case.

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Bureau of Land Management Redding Field Office and the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office for assisting in the identification and arrest of Anthony Taylor as well as the California Highway Patrol -Susanville Office for assisting in the investigation.
