Sheriff’s Office Update: Redding Man Arrested After Bieber Altercation

A 23-year old Redding man was taken into custody by Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputies after an altercation in Bieber on Saturday left a Reno man with a severe hand injury.

Shortly before midnight on September 30th, LCSO Deputies responded to northern Lassen County after receiving a report of a fight involving a weapon, and found that a verbal exchange inside the Big Valley store had resulted in a physical altercation and a severe hand injury to the victim, identified as 44-year old Reno, Nevada resident Jesse Barry.

According to LCSO Captain Kevin Jones, Deputies interviewed several people on scene and concluded Barry was in Big Valley Market when an unknown female made some threatening comments to his daughter. Barry walked outside determine who she was, and why she had done this, when he was confronted by a man in the parking lot of the market.

The man, identified by LCSO as 23-year old Redding resident Brandon Roope-Leiss, had retrieved a box cutter type knife from his vehicle before confronting Barry.

The two men began fighting, and Barry suffered a laceration to a finger from the cutting device.

Roope-Leiss left the scene with the female after the altercation.

LCSO Deputies, assisted by Modoc Co. Sheriff’s Deputies, contacted Roope-Leiss in Modoc County. After speaking to him, Roope-Leiss was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Mayhem based on the severity of the injury to the victim.

Roope-Leiss was booked into the Lassen Co. Jail and held on $1,012,500 bail. The case is submitted to the Lassen Co. District Attorney’s Office.
