NWS Weather Bulletin: First Significant Storm of the Season Hits Today

The National Weather Service’s Reno office has issued a Winter Storm Warning as a powerful winter storm sets its sights on Lassen County. The storm warning is for elevations above 6,000 feet, with heavy rain and extreme wind forecast here in the Honey Lake Valley.

The Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 4:00 this afternoon until 4:00 Friday morning.

NWS Forecasters expect heavy, wet snow and high winds leading to difficult travel conditions. Damage to trees and power lines is possible.

Above the 6,000 foot elevation, total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are likely with localized areas of up to 36 inches above 7,000 feet.

A few inches of the white stuff are likely Thursday night down to 5,000 feet, west of Highway 395.

Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. Wind gusts over 60mph will create difficult driving conditions, especially along U.S. Highway 395 between Susanville and the Nevada border.
