In the early evening of January 28th, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and K-9 Handler Dustin Russell was on patrol in the area of Center Road with his K-9 Brinks when he observed a vehicle speeding near Rice Canyon Road.
After pulling the driver over Deputy Russell identified him as 49-year old Lassen County resident Eugene Stewart, along with a passenger identified as 25-year old Susanville resident Joshua Doyle.
“During their investigation,” explains LCSO Operations Commander, Captain Kevin Jones, “Deputy Russell and K-9 Brinks conducted a walk-around of the vehicle. Brinks is cross-trained for protection and narcotics detection and displayed a positive alert on the car.”
The search revealed that the vehicle’s passenger, Joshua Doyle, who according to the Sheriff’s Office is an ex-felon, was in possession of two loaded firearms, one of which was reported stolen several days ago in the City of Susanville.
“Additionally,” said Captain Jones, “a large amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and other items consistent with the sales of drugs were discovered on Doyle.”
More than 47 grams of methamphetamine were seized by Deputies.
Doyle was arrested on the following charges; Convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substance while in possession of firearm, carrying a concealed stolen firearm, convicted felon carrying concealed weapon, possession of controlled substance for sale.
He was booked into the Lassen County Jail and is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
The driver, Eugene Stewart, was found to be in misdemeanor possession of heroin and was arrested and released at the scene on a notice to appear.
“Brinks and Deputy Russell took a significant amount of drugs and dangerous weapons off the streets of our community. Job well done!”
