NWS Weather Bulletin: Get Ready! Here Comes The Snow!

Forecasters at the National Weather Service’s Reno office have issued a Winter Storm Warning, in effect until Friday at 11:00p.m. The urgent weather message is warning residents to expect heavy snow, down to the valley floor, over the next 36 hours.

According to the NWS we should see total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches along Highway 395 and in the Sierra Valley, with 1 to 3 feet possible above 5,000 feet before the storm ends.

Snow will continue to grow heavier this afternoon and overnight with accumulating snow possible until late Friday night.

Plan on difficult travel conditions tonight and Friday. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times with periods of whiteout conditions possible over mountain passes.

Avoid travel if possible tonight and Friday, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and
clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
