A McKinley Elementary teacher will be making a difference felt halfway around the world this Saturday as she runs the 4.5 Mile course at the Paiute Meadows Trail Run, raising money for a Texas based organization that offers alternative options for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya.
The Mercy House’s mission is to aid the girls in nutrition, housing, prenatal care, Bible study, counseling and job skills for sustainable living. Along with maternity homes in Kenya, the group also purchases fair trade items from artisan groups all around the world.
“This organization rescues women who have been sold by their families for food to survive in the slums of Kenya, and often end up pregnant,” said Tarah Clark, the Susanville teacher who will be running in Saturday’s event to support Mercy House.
“Mercy House’s headquarters are located in Texas and yearly they support a marathon there,” explains Clark. “Since many of their supporters can’t make it to Texas, they have let us team-up with Mercy House to run a local race and raise money for their cause.”
“I just love this organization and what they do to rescue these young women and support women around the world who may have previously been entrapped in sex trafficking or slave labor.”
The 4.5 Mile run will begin at 8:30 on Saturday at Susanville Ranch Park.
