CHP Incident: Reno Man Arrested for DUI After Nearly Striking CHP Patrol Vehicle

The Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol has released details of a May 27th, incident where a Reno man was arrested after nearly colliding with a CHP patrol vehicle north of Church Street on Highway 395 near Janesville.

According to the report a CHP officer was traveling southbound on the highway following a pickup and travel trailer at around 11:00p.m. The officer looked in his rear view mirror and observed headlights closing in on him from the rear at a high rate of speed.

The CHP unit took evasive action and turned hard to the left as Kennedy swerved to the right nearly striking the rear of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, identified by CHP as 23-year old Reno resident Jared Kennedy, lost control of his 2000 Subaru Outback on the dirt shoulder and swerved back hard-left as the car began sliding sideways across all lanes of the highway, nearly striking the rear of the travel trailer in front of the officer.

Kennedy’s vehicle then struck a steel paddle marker on the east shoulder of the roadway before to corning to a stop on the dirt shoulder.

After a subsequent investigation Kennedy was arrested for driving under the influence.
