Last Wednesday, Assembly Republican Leader Brian Dahle welcomed Army Sgt. Maj. Tony Ginocchio to the State Capitol to honor him as the 2018 Veteran of the Year. Ginocchio, a Mount Shasta native, is a decorated army veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War.
“It is a privilege to thank Sgt. Maj. Ginocchio for serving our country, and acting as a leader in our veteran community,” said Dahle. “He is a true hero and an example of what sacrifice looks like in service of your country.”
While serving on infantry and special forces assignments, Ginocchio received multiple awards for his actions and wounds sustained on the battlefield. He continues to show his heroism by serving as a veteran advocate and volunteer. He dedicates his time to the community by coordinating the Walmart Heart resources hot meal program to feed veterans, law enforcement officers and firefighters. His wife Connie supports him in his activism.
