More than 150 people traveled to Stones Landing at Eagle Lake on August 18th to be a part of the 3rd annual Wiener Dog Races, a fundraiser to help Lassen County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children program.
The races, which were hosted by Sunset Property’s Eagle Lake Resort, featured 16 little doggies competing for trophies, medals and prizes.
Eagle Lake artists donated items to the CASA organization and had booths set up to show off their talents.
According to event organizer Andrea Traphagan the event raised more than $2,000 for the CASA program from entry fees, bbq sales and private donors.
Donated items for the silent auction came from; Treats in Susanville; Cyndi San Diego; Donna Round; Carol Keller; Pam Fischer; Mary and Rob Gastlecutto; Cathy Farmer and Mary Seerley.
Dog baskets were contributed by Sunset Properties, Sunset Ranch and Sunset Contracting.
Trophies and prizes donated by Sunset Contracting, Thomas and Andrea Traphagan.
“This year we had 16 dogs enter our races and they all had fun running their little hearts out,” said Traphagan, “admittedly, not always in the right direction!”
“It was fun to watch them and it was fun to enjoy the families that gathered to watch our racers!”
Volunteers that made this event happen include Gary and Vicki Palmer, Penny and Roy Thiels, Nancy Weaver, Paul and Nancy Albers, Cyndi San Diego and the community of Stones Landing.
Lassen’s Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children progam consists of a group of volunteers who assist with children’s needs while they are in the Court Dependency Program. They meet with the children every two weeks and go to every court hearing. In order to supply the judge with recommendations that will be best for these children, they review the entire case records and speak to every person involved: social workers, attorneys, teachers, family members, therapists, and the child.
