A missing child has been reunited with her mother thanks to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office and the Susanville Police Department.
The missing child’s father, according to details released by the District Attorney’s office on Friday, abducted the child and then traveled out of state in an effort to evade the child’s mother and law enforcement.
Following the abduction, Lassen Deputy District Attorney Stephanie Skeen began working in collaboration with the Susanville Police Department and Lassen County Victim/Witness Advocate, Twyla Braninburg, to locate the child.
According to Lassen County DA’s Office Program Coordinator Michelle Latimer, the Susanville Police Department contacted authorities in Nevada and Utah to obtain ongoing information regarding the investigation and regularly updated the DA’s office as to the status of the case. Skeen partnered with the California Child Abduction Task Force and received cooperation from various District Attorney’s Offices as far away as Riverside County, California.
“DDA Skeen and Advocate Braninburg helped the child’s mother obtain an advocate from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and continuously supported the mother during the ongoing investigation,” explained Latimer.
“The child was peacefully surrendered to her mother. The mother would like to acknowledge the efforts of the collaborating agencies for demonstrating true compassion toward her child’s welfare and making it a top priority.”
