Herlong School Work Started
March 11th, 1953
Despite the cold winds and snow Sunday, March 1, about 200 persons attended ground breaking ceremonies for the Herlong branch of Lassen Union high school.
The program opened at the school site with presentation of colors, the National Anthem and pledge to the flag, followed by the invocation delivered by the Rev. G. Richard Maloney. Co. HG. H. Leavitt welcomed the guests and introduced Miss Lucille Gansberg, county superintendent of schools, who in turn introduced Gene Ashley, student body vice president from Herlong, who turned the first spade of ground.
L. V. Greenleaf, superintendent of Lassen Union high school, delivered the main address of the day, which traced the history of the schools of Herlong, to the present accomplishment, and cited many statistics concerning the development of plans for a high school.
Greenleaf was followed by the Rev. JH. W. Logan, delivering the benediction.
