Litchfield Resident Sustains Major Injuries in Highway 395 Collision

A Litchfield man sustained major injuries Tuesday afternoon when his pickup collided with a big-rig just east of Shaffer school in Litchfield.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a man identified as 61-year old Corning resident Andrew Davis was driving his Freightliner tractor trailer northbound on US-395 at approximately 60mph.

At the same time, 52-year old Litchfield resident Timothy Smith was leaving the driveway of his residence in a Ford F250 and he did not observe the Freightliner driving towards him. He began to pull out onto the highway directly in the path of the big-rig.

Davis applied his brakes and turned to the left but was unable to avoid a collision with the Ford F250.

The impact caused both vehicles to travel out of control, going off the west side of the roadway into a ditch.

Smith was pinned inside his vehicle until he was extricated by emergency personnel. He was life-flighted to Renown for treatment of major injuries.

Davis complained of pain and was taken to Banner Lassen Medical Center for treatment.

The Susanville CHP office thanked all of the emergency personnel who were on-scene for their assistance.
