Susanville FFA’s members travelled to McArthur on Wednesday to compete in the Opening and Closing contest, placing first high out of ten teams. Susanville’s Officer team placed sixth.

Hi this is Erin Nickell I am the vice president for our FFA this year and yesterday we had our opening and closing contest in McArthur.

“Before this contest we prepared by learning a script for the FFA opening ceremonies,” explains FFA vice-president Erin Nickell. “We had two teams compete which were our advanced which had freshman through seniors as well as our officer team which was juniors and seniors.”

“When it was time for us to compete we designated one person to organize the seating arrangements with the officer positions and then had to walk into the room in that order.”

Competitors then had to present the opening and closing ceremonies that they had learned in front of judges. The advance team placed first high team out of 10 teams, and the officer team placed sixth high.

“While we were there we had a great time meeting other FFA chapters and making new friends chapters,” said Nickell.

The event in McArthur also featured rotations where kids could make a boutonniere, a wood box look, look a ultrasound of a cow, learn how to tie a tie and get public speaking tips.
