Police Arrest Suspect in New Year’s Morning Shooting

A 27-year old Susanville resident was arrested Wednesday morning for a shooting on Limoneria Street that sent a man to the hospital with two gunshot wounds early New Year’s day.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at around 1:00 New Year’s morning at the Parkview Garden Apartments.

“On arrival a victim of a gunshot wound was located, a 44 year old male,” explains Susanville Police Chief Kevin Jones. “The victim was only able to provide minimal details prior to being transported to a hospital. A male suspect with a firearm was identified as being involved and reportedly fled the area.”

Personnel from the Susanville Police Department, CHP and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate the person who was described to them as the shooter.

At approximately 2:00a.m., Officers confirmed the suspect’s location inside an apartment at the complex.

“An occupant of the building assisted SPD in communicating to the suspect by phone, requesting that he come out from the apartment,” said Chief Jones in details released this afternoon.

“The suspect exited the apartment without incident and was arrested. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered at the crime scene, as was multiple items of evidence.”

The suspect, identified by the department as Susanville resident Michael Gracia, was booked into the Lassen County Jail for Attempted Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. His bail is set at $510,000.

The victim was listed in critical condition at an out of the area hospital with two gunshot wounds.
