According to Lassen County’s Registrar of Voters an error has been identified on the local ballot for the March 3rd California Assembly District 1 race.
The designated party preference for candidate PK “Paul” Dhanuka was erroneously listed as Democratic. It should have read “No Party Preference.”
“After consultation with the California Secretary of State’s Office, Elections Unit, this election will continue,” explains Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustmante. “It has been determined that public notification measures should be implemented.”
According to Bustamante the candidates in the affected race have been notified and local news media has being briefed on the issue.
A postcard notice of the error will be sent by mail to all Lassen County voters on Tuesday and a notice informing voters of the error will be posted at all polling locations, including within the polling booths.
Efforts will be made to contact all voters for whom cast ballots have been received at the time of discovery. Those 68 voters, according to Bustamante, will be provided an opportunity to cast a different ballot.
“I apologize for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused. If you have any questions feel free to contact the election office at 530-251-8217.”
