Night Lighting Seems Due for Susanville Sports
March 5, 1949

A committee to investigate night lightning for athletes and community activities in the high school field, was appointed at a meeting Tuesday evening in the junior college auditorium.

The meeting was called by Coach Ray Arjo of the high school and Victor Mickey of the softball association. The committee includes Arjo, chairman, representing the high school and junior college; Nolan Hallowell, Mickey, Mrs. Al Bradnt, Jim Kincaid, Nat Haws and P.O. Vanderburgh.

A plan submitted by the high school for lightning a new proposed field, would require public raising of about $5,000. Estimated cost of the entire project was about $11,000. The proposed field would parallel the river, and would be laid out for football, with a softball diamond in the middle.

The high school plan calls for lighted softball field towards the high school from the proposed football-softball field. A temporary lighted field is provided for this season.

The meeting also discussed the need for a general recreation program for the town and area.
