NWS Weather Bulletin: More Snow On the Way

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect until 11:00a.m. Monday in Lassen County with forecasters from the National Weather Service saying we could possible see a total of 10-inches here on the valley floor before it is all over.

The strong winter storm will continue to impact the region with significant Sierra snow accumulations and travel disruptions. Chilly and unsettled weather is expected to persist into the first half of next week with additional chances for snow down to valley floors.

A classic heavy snow pattern for the Sierra will continue today into Monday as a cyclone off the California coast continues to slide slowly south. Very heavy snow will continue in the Sierra with periods of moderate snow or rain/snow mix in western Nevada as this storm continues to pump moisture into the region.

Snow rates of 1 to 2+ inches per hour are expected to continue through midday with snow continuing to fall in the Sierra through Tuesday. Snowfall rates will slowly lessen Sunday night into Monday, but travel could remain challenging in and around the Sierra well into Monday.

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11:00a.m. MONDAY

Heavy snow is forecast here in the Honey Lake Valley with total snow accumulations of 3 to 10 inches, with 10 to 24 inches west of highway 395. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

Snow totals will be similar across Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra Counties.

Expect southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph over the higher passes. This could create areas of blowing and drifting snow.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
