Susanville’s Interim City Administrator Kevin Jones has addressed social media rumors which have circulated throughout the day, saying that although the City is keeping a close eye on the situation and meeting regularly with fire officials, there are no immediate plans to do any sort of evacuation in the city.
“Citizens of Susanville,” Jones said, “Due to fires in recent years in surrounding areas, we all have a heightened awareness and concern when fires as this are near our community. Over the last days there has been an increasing concern in our community regarding the Hog fire and its growth. There have been several inquiries about evacuations within the City, or precautionary notices.
“As of this morning, there are no immediate plans to give any pre-cautionary or advisory evacuations within the City. However, we will be very vigilant in monitoring and evaluating throughout the days. As we all know, fires can be incredibly unpredictable and can change at any time.
“We have and will continue to meet with our local Fire Department, Cal-Fire and the Office of Emergency Services on monitoring the fire and its behavior. If a concern arises, we will disseminate the information through media outlets available, immediately.
“Although internet and phone lines are down for many locally, I encourage you to monitor KSUE/JDX, Lassen County Times, SusanvilleStuff.com and all local government social media sites for factual information.
“Over the next 24 hours, informational boards should be placed around the City with information on the Hog Fire. There will also be information at the Police Department and Fire Department.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have been affected by the fire and to those who are working to combat it.”
