Lassen County 4H Ambassador’s Corner – 4H News from Around the County

By Rebecca Kirklin
2020-2021 4H County Ambassador

Hello Lassen County! I hope everyone had a great start to 2021! 4-H does not have much going on because of COVID restrictions but, thanks to great leaders, we have managed to have a variety of project meetings.

As of right now, most meetings are held virtually using Zoom. Our leaders make the best of it by keeping us engaged in our meetings. Unfortunately, most 4-H county or club events are either being held virtually or have been postponed.

In January, Chico State University held a virtual sheep and goat day. We learned about goat and sheep health, showmanship, and how to raise a good animal for market. We got to participate in a skillathon to test what we learned and what we already knew. Megan Von Helf placed 7th in the intermediate category. Congratulations Megan!

The Leadership Development Project is looking for a COVID compliant community service project. They would like input from the community. If you have an idea for a COVID safe community service project, please email the leadership project at [email protected].

Lake 4-H is having their Drive Through Breakfast on Saturday, February 20th. The menu is pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage or you can get biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs, bacon or sausage. The breakfast will be open from 7:00am to 10:00am. Remember, veterans always eat free!

Milford 4-H is getting ready for their Valentines for Veterans project. What a great way to encourage our service members.

The Lassen County Fair has some exciting new exhibits! They have added market ducks and best homebred rabbit meat pen. Along with adding some new exhibits, we also have a new fair manager, Kaitlyn Downing! Many 4-H members are hopeful that we will have an in-person fair this summer.
