Firefighters responded to a fully-engulfed carport at a residence on Carroll Street late Tuesday night, managing to knock down the fire quickly while keeping the flames from doing more than minor damage to the residence.
When they arrived on-scene the first due Engine Company reported a carport attached to the house was completely engulfed in flames.
“Quick and aggressive firefighting efforts were performed and the fire was contained to the car port area and extinguished with moderate damage to the garage and minor damage to the residence,” explains Susanville Fire Captain Robert H. Brown Jr.
“All occupants were out of the structure and accounted for upon arrival of the first engine company.”
According to Brown the cause of the fire was due to hot ashes stored in a plastic bucket near other combustibles.
“The Susanville Fire Department would like to remind everyone to store all ashes in an approved container outside and away from all combustible materials.”
The Susanville Police Department, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Cal Fire, CCC/HDSP, and Susan River Fire Protection District were all on-scene at the fire to assist the SFD.
There were 27 people committed to the incident including 3 Chief Officers, 5 Engines, 1 Truck and 3 SPD units.
