A new Facebook group called “Adopt a Lassen County Senior Class of 2020” has been launched to help celebrate local seniors who have seen their school year cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group was created by Jennifer Estrada who said that she heard about similar programs in other communities and felt compelled to bring it to Lassen.
“I am excited for this project and I feel very optimistic that we can get someone to adopt every Lassen County Senior who wishes to be,” said Estrada.
The Facebook group has some YouTube videos and suggestions of what to send.
“It’s a care package, a graduation present,” explained Estrada. “Think Operation Christmas Child but local to Lassen County and custom tailored to a High School Senior.”
Participants are invited to join the group, then write a bio about their graduating senior with a pic or pics. If anyone is interested in adopting them they contact them directly.
Senior Care Packages can be shipped or dropped off directly while still maintaining safe social distancing.
“Gift cards are awesome especially to local businesses, I’d love to have any local businesses involved.”
Each ‘adopted’ senior from Lassen County, including Charter School graduates, will receive a care package through the program. The group is asking for the community’s support.
